Amherst College Extends Dining Hours For Thanksgiving Break
The Amherst College Dining Services has been pleased to make additional adjustments to their retail hours slightly in the break for the Thanksgiving holiday. This has happened after receiving feedback from the campus community and is to cater for those who will be visiting the campus during the break.
As has been stated in the announcement, several of the retail dining locations will remain open with a limited schedule. The Black Coffee, which is a small dining lounge with an excellent interior design located at GrA, will be open from 8 in the morning to 2 pm, 5 days a week, with an offered menu of coffee, bakery products, and light meals. Schwemm’s Coffee House will, therefore, be open in the evenings until 10 PM on specific days in order to accommodate students studying for forthcoming semester-end tests.
In addition, the Amherst College Dining Services staff has also prepared a holiday meals menu for the week into Thanksgiving. At the dining halls some students can be able to get to have meals such as roast turkey, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie during those celebrations. Diabetic meals, gluten-free meals, low carbohydrate meals, vegetarian, and vegan will also be served to meet the needs of clients with special diets.
Besides keeping more hours and offering special menus, this college will be unveiling the Keefe Campus Center grab and go. This service will have meals and snacks to be bought in advance and received before moving to another class or while studying. The grab-and-go station is to include a range of sandwiches, salads, fruits and drinks, among other food items.
In addition to place-based support, the college has reached out to local restaurants where students are offered up to 15% discount if they are able to present a student identification. Local businesses in downtown Amherst will offer promotions and discounts during the break and bring out students for an opportunity to taste available food joints as they support the Amherst local businesses.
These extra services are among a range of strategies that Amherst College is adopting in order to improve the quality of activities available to students during the holidays. Ally aware that several students especially the international students might not have a chance to go back home to celebrate thanksgiving, the college will provide a conducive Thanksgiving environment on campus.
These provisions are to be launched alongside the dining services, and the Office of Student Affairs is planning to hold a number of events and activities for students who will be on campus during the break. Some are movie nights, games competitions, and volunteering programs, and others ensure that all students in Amherst for the holiday feel connected.
The current management of the college says that they have been actively supporting mental health as students are in the final weeks of their semester. Counseling services will remain available throughout the break, while peer support groups will keep meeting online.
In a similar vein with regard to sustainability, the college’s dining services team has also said that new initiatives for waste management will also be added during the extended hours. Only disposable containers will be allowed to be used for take-away foods, and all compost bins will be located visibly in the food service areas.
The students have welcomed the announcement, welcoming the efforts of the college to take care of those who are still in the college hostels. The proposed new hours for operation and the variety of meals should have a highly impacting positive effect on the Thanksgiving break experience for the Amherst College community, thus making the holiday periods a new standard for the campus.
